Thom Van Bui was born in central Sai Gon and raised in a blue collar family. His parents faced tremendous hardships but were constant advocates for higher education, encouraging and providing their nine children with all the necessities to advance their education. After the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, Thom had to quit school. His education didn’t resume again until he arrived in the US in 1980. With his parents’ teaching in his heart, he completed his education and became the first person in his family to graduate from college. For the last 18 years, he has worked as a Design Engineer for Boeing Aircraft Company. Self-motivation, self-awareness and a college degree were the keys to his success in pursuing the American Dream.
Thom believes strongly in educating young minds and that every child should have the opportunity to pursue an education. Only then can we hope for a harmonious, caring society where we as individuals have the empathy to give more than we take.
